Our Union Island library building is nearly finished now, with information on the past, present and future of unions internationally. The latest and greatest thing there now though is a new work by Second Life artist Aiyas Aya, curator of the fantastic Node Zero gallery. The piece, called Digital Shard, really sets off the building’s light and airy by Matthaios Aquacade (of Citrus Virtual). Union Island is now officially open – although in beta (which is fancy speak for “not finished yet”!). We’re still working on it, but wanted to let people in a soon as possible to get comments going. Teleport to Union Island

Join the Union Island User Group in SL to be the first to get the announcement on Monday and the landmark to come visit!

Okay, this looks a little like a departure lounge, but it’s actually the place where Union Island and this blog meet. Using the magic of RSS, we can send details of the latest upcoming events and news from this blog onto the big screens in the reception building on the Island. We want to make it as easy as possible for people to keep up to date with what we’re up to – especially important to let people know about the events we’re planning. For another good way to stay up to date, join the Union Island User Group from within Second Life.

Here’s our new training and presentation building, just being put together. Hopefully small enough to be comfy, but big enough to avoid the headache of camera angles when you’re trying to pay attention.

It’s a space for films, lectures, courses and more, though with nice views over the rest of the island, we’ll have to work hard to stop people staring out of those nice big windows!

Trees and walkways going in now. Makes the stroll up the hill to the library look very pleasant. The idea is to make an environment that is easy to get around for people new to SL, but also natural and enjoyable to walk through – heightening the sense of being there.

Some pretty suspension bridges are new in our virtual building site, and things are really starting to look nice. Different functions for the island will be set in their own areas, and dedicated buildings are being made to make the most of the different type of interactions that will be going on in each.

Union Island is now starting to look a bit more like home! Matthaios Aquacade from in-world solution provider Citrus Virtual is helping us to terraform the island and design and build the buildings and features. So far Matthaios has been busy shaping the terrain and laying out foundations. We’ll show you more of the build in progress as it happens.
