Virtual politics – Obama team reaches out to SL http://www.slunionisland.org/2009/01/virtual-politics-obama-team-reaches-out-to-sl/ http://www.slunionisland.org/2009/01/virtual-politics-obama-team-reaches-out-to-sl/#comments Wed, 14 Jan 2009 16:20:08 +0000 Johninnit Ni http://www.slunionisland.org/2009/01/virtual-politics-obama-team-reaches-out-to-sl/

Another great video from Draxtor Despres on civil society and virtual society. This machinima focuses on US President Elect Barack Obama’s transition team on healthcare, consulting with a wider audience on healthcare proposals with American SL residents, and how the huge volunteer effort behind Obama’s web presence is extended online.

Peter Mandelson

And in the UK, look out for trade and industry minister Peter Mandelson appearing in SL next month, to launch a new group blog and new media strategy for the UK Labour Party. Wonder if he’ll come by Union Island to talk industry policy with us – he’s always very welcome!   ;)

The virtual vote http://www.slunionisland.org/2008/03/the-virtual-vote/ http://www.slunionisland.org/2008/03/the-virtual-vote/#comments Thu, 13 Mar 2008 08:16:56 +0000 Johninnit Ni http://www.slunions.org/2008/03/the-virtual-vote/ New World Network’s Wagner James Au has a new article up at Huffington Post, called All Politics is Virtual. He’s drawing together evidence that a number of politicians may now see virtual worlds as good places to campaign, and that come the US election after next, this could be commonplace. He also cites last year’s IBM picket as evidence that people can come together to mobilise in a virtual world for change in the real world.
